Job Description
Masonry Workers in Canada construct, repair, and maintain buildings using bricks, concrete blocks, natural stone, and other masonry materials. They work on residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects while following construction drawings and workplace safety standards. Typical work weeks are 35–40 hours, with overtime available on many projects.
Job Duties
- Lay bricks, concrete blocks, and natural stone.
- Build walls, chimneys, fireplaces, foundations, and partitions.
- Mix mortar and prepare construction materials.
- Read blueprints and construction drawings.
- Repair damaged masonry structures.
- Measure, cut, and align bricks and blocks accurately.
- Maintain construction tools and equipment.
- Follow workplace safety regulations.
- Work with supervisors and other construction workers
Qualification
- High school diploma preferred.
- Experience in masonry, bricklaying, or construction is an advantage.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work.
- Knowledge of construction tools and safety procedures.
- Apprenticeship or trade certification is beneficial but not always required.
